I hope the
winning bidder really took a serious look on the postmarks of this cover.
The 2c PHILIPPINES issue is tied with a DAGUPAN / PANGASINAN / NOV 14 (1902)
postmark and the 2c Postage Due (J2) is tied with a MANILA / MAR 23 1903
duplex.
My conclusion:
This is a favored postage due cover and the name "STOCKING" tells
it all. The 2c franking is good for double rate at 1 ounce maximum weight.
The 2c Dues would indicate that the cover is 1-1/2 weight which required
3c postage and the additional 1c is penalty on the 1c postage deficit.
Examine the cover size and condition. It is a standard size clean envelope
which would indicate that nothing heavy or thick was placed inside.
There are also
no other markings that the cover was not delivered immediately. So why
charge it postage dues only after more than three months. $125.00 for this
cover is bloody murder.
